God Bless China (2020), Burnt Snow #7, Xilamuren, Inner Mongolia CN
During the performance art festival held on the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, a situation arose: plainclothes police arrived and, after a confrontation with the organiser and some artists, proceeded with an arrest. It was mayhem.
I stayed back and reflected on communication, the role of the artist in society, and eventually my mind became so full that I decided to perform a short action with only fellow artist Yves Gore as my audience.
I breathed slowly and prayed into the streamers that unfurled into colourful explosions. Then, I hung them on the skeleton of a yurt so that the blessings could travel far, just like Tibetan prayer flags.
