The action in performance art can be imperceptible, like a pole to which golden fringes are attached and stirred by the wind. The artist then truly becomes a medium in which the ego quiets itself, allowing other creative energies to act on her.
Among the meanings of the Sanskrit word Avadhuta are “agitated,” like the effect of the wind, and “detached from earthly attachments,” much like the hermits who lived on Mons Soracte.
